About Morgan Ranch of North Texas

The history of Morgan Ranch spans vast lakes and planes of North Texas. In the early 1960s , John Robert Morgan Sr., a distinguished Army veteran and Plano native , found himself drawn to the beauty of the countryside north of Dallas. While working as a petroleum engineer for Texas Oil & Gas, John Sr. and his wife, Margie Nell, seized the opportunity to invest in land, acquiring adjoining properties in Fannin County and laying the foundation for what would become the Morgan Ranch.

As John Sr.'s career in the oil industry flourished, so did his passion for ranching. He continued to expand the family's land holdings, establishing a legacy that would be passed down through generations. The ranch, a haven in Fannin County, became a refuge for the Morgan family—a place of connection to the land, livestock, and a shared vision for sustainable living.

John Sr.'s granddaughter, Katie, found her own connection to the ranch. Growing up between Dallas and the ranch, she spent weekends and lengths of every summer in Bonham and at the ranch, captivated by its natural beauty and the legacy her grandfather had created. From an early age, Katie harbored a dream of becoming the manager and operator of the family ranch.

Katie's journey took her to college, where she pursued a degree in Religious Studies and Biochemistry, laying the groundwork for a unique blend of perspectives. Driven by her passion for the land, she furthered her education at Texas A&M University – Commerce, earning a master's degree in Agricultural Sciences. Her research focused on pastured poultry and large animal nutrition, laying the groundwork for the ranch's commitment to sustainable and regenerative practices.

Katie's dedication to the land and its animals led her to Texas A&M University, where she completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). Armed with a deep understanding of agriculture, animal health, and sustainable practices, Katie returned to the ranch, fulfilling her childhood dream of becoming its steward.

Now, Morgan Ranch has returned to family management, with John Sr.'s great-grandchildren, Freddy and Mary Nell, standing beside their mother. Together, they carry not only the family name but also the responsibility of upholding the Morgan Ranch legacy. The ranch has evolved into a beacon of sustainable agriculture and community for Fannin County, providing pasture-raised meats, equestrian trails, and event spaces to neighbors and beyond, all while following a sustainable and regenerative model.
